Hi, I’m Marilyn!
Marilyn (she/her)
After 20+ years in various types of fitness, my own body and its abilities have changed many times, and in many different ways. Each version of our bodies has carries us through some mentally and physically challenging periods of our lives, and I want to help clients learn how to build a relationship with their bodies that helps them become empowered and resilient.
I know what it’s like to feel on top of the world, and what it’s like to feel it come crashing down. I was a competitive fencer in both high school and college (women’s foil); studied psychology at Duke; participated in 170+ running events after college (including 5 marathons); taught over 3,000 classes across fencing, barre, and indoor cycling. I’ve also been hit by a car while out for a run, which fractured my ankle, messed up my upper body, and made me felt like I didn’t know who I was or whose body I was in. This made me realize how important it was to recognize and celebrate progress with my body where it was in that moment, and to create a relationship with movement that is sustainable.
My sessions are rooted in functional movement, because the real goal is a better quality of life: more strength, more mobility, more ease in how you move through the world every day. Rather than just telling my clients what to do, I hope to help them become more aware and more curious in their own bodies.
I’m also neurodivergent (ADHD) and live with depression and anxiety, and movement has been one of the most consistent tools I have for supporting my mental health. I bring that personal understanding into every session.
Join me for a group fitness class (your first class is only $5 with code FIRSTCLASS), or email me for a complimentary initial personal training session.
